Before your appointment
For Australian residents, Yes. A GP referral is required to see a dermatologist and if you wish to make a claim with Medicare.
For International residents, No. You can see a dermatologist without a GP referral, although we prefer one, but you cannot make any claims with Medicare.
A referral is not required if you are seeing our;
- Trichologist
- Dermal clinician
- Clinical trials unit
- It provides general background medical information that may be of relevance to treatment.
- After each consultation, the dermatologist will correspond with GP re-updated medications and results.
- A medicare claim is able to be processed.
- Referrals last for 12 months, even for the same condition.
Please bring along your doctor's referral (without this our specialists cannot see you), Medicare card and list of your current medications/copies of past investigations (if relevant).
GP referrals last for 12 months, unless your GP specifies it is an ‘ongoing indefinite’ referral, which is then valid for 5 years. Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months.
Patients with a GP referral are eligible for a Medicare rebate. As we are a private clinic (not bulk billing) a fee is charged for all consultations.
If at the time of your consultation a procedure is required, an additional fee will be incurred. Rest assured our staff will explain the details of the procedure as well as the fees beforehand, so you can make an informed decision on whether or not to proceed.
If your appointment time becomes inconvenient for you, we are always happy to change it if you provide us with at least 48 hours’ notice. This allows us to schedule in a patient who may be in urgent need of care. Unfortunately, if a scheduled appointment is not cancelled within this time frame or attended, a $75 cancellation fee will be charged.
