Do men and women need different skincare and haircare products?

Should men buy different shampoos?
When it comes to haircare, it turns out the same thing is true — gender doesn’t affect your hair needs.

Dermatologist Rod Sinclair says what you choose to buy for your hair is all about what you want to do with your hair, not your gender.

“It’s about the hair length and about how you want the hair to perform,” Professor Sinclair says.

“There’s a whole ritual around presentation that men often don’t do, and those rituals necessitate different haircare practices.

“If you want to avoid flyaway hair and have beautifully crisp, straight hair, then you’re going to need certain products, if you want extra volume, there are products that will do that.

“A lot of skincare, haircare, nailcare relates to how you want your skin, hair and nails to perform.”

Of course, if you are having particular problems with your hair, skin or nails, it’s best to see a dermatologist to help you work out what you might need to help.

But if you don’t and just want to try something new with your hair, nails or skin, whether the label says “men” or “women” isn’t something you should worry about.
